There are so many variables that go into each insurance situation that it’s best to get in touch with your broker directly to make sure you’re being covered properly.

Lightbulb Grip only requires two kinds of insurance for our rentals: Equipment Coverage and possibly Auto Rental Insurance if you rent a vehicle from us.
As for figuring out particular values to get a quote, please speak to your Lightbulb rental agent (or email us at ) and we can tell you the replacement value estimates to use in the Athos Quote process.

In most cases, yes we can work with student filmmakers to accept their university insurance policies. Once we have sent your team a quote, please email a copy of your school’s policy to and we will work with you and your school’s requirements to make your rental happen.
We have worked with the following university insurance policies in the past:
There are limitations to most university policies about what they will and will not cover for safety and liability reasons. So we’ll let you know if your policy meets Lightbulb’s rental requirements. Any other questions about what your policy does or does not cover will have to be referred to your university’s insurance policy manager.
No, you cannot use someone else’s insurance, you cannot “borrow” a policy, and you cannot “have a friend cover your rental”.
We require that the person who is in charge of the production be listed as the Insured Party on the policy, and we do not allow renters to use a policy that does not have them (or their Producer/Production Co) listed directly on the policy.
No, all insurance certificates provided must be from US-based insurance brokers with contact info for the broker listed on the policy (Name/Phone/Email).
We cannot accept international insurance policies for any reason.
If you are traveling overseas with your project and need coverage for another country, please speak to your insurance broker and make sure that your policy covers that country (and travel time) before submitting your COI to Lightbulb.
Athos’s FAQ Page states that their Equipment Policy contains worldwide coverage, but their Production Policies must be specifically requested for international travel based on the country.
