The Hudson Spider Redback 36″ Octagon Parabolic LED from Lightbulb Rentals is designed around a 36″ diameter fixture with eight hinged aluminum and steel arms that can be formed into a parabolic shape. This fixture houses a total of 3456 closely-spaced LEDs, creating a soft, continuous light source. The 12 x 8″ cylinder offers a wide color temperature range of 2600 to 6500K with a CRI of 95+, ensuring superior accuracy in color rendering.
The Redback is dimmable from 0 to 100%, with adjustments possible both locally on the fixture and remotely via onboard DMX from a console. In addition to its softness, the Redback provides a unique wrap-around quality, snappy contrast, and a crisp specular quality often described as “magical,” making it an ideal beauty light.
For those needing directional control and softness options, the kit includes a Redback Parabolic Reflector with a silver-interior Ultrabounce fitted cover, Magic Cloth diffuser, and full and 1/2 grid cloth diffusers. Additionally, the kit comes with an IEC power cord, 24′ header cable, and a 5/8″ Baby pin with 3/8″ threads.
The key to recreating the umbrella-bounced light look with LEDs is positioning them closely together, spreading them evenly along the length of a parabolic-shaped armature, and focusing them outward.
