The 35mm focal length provides a slightly wide perspective, capturing more of the scene around subjects without significant distortion. This versatility is ideal for tight spaces or wider vistas without drawing undue attention to lens characteristics. Its compact size makes it suitable for regular production, stabilized rigs, aerial cinematography, and stereoscopic 3D capture.
Projecting a usable 36mm image circle, the lens is compatible with cameras slightly larger than Super 35. A consistent T2.0 maximum aperture ensures seamless exposure transitions across the Summicron-C range. Geared focus and iris control rings are positioned identically, facilitating swift lens changes without adjusting follow focus systems.
Featuring an internal focus design, the lens maintains a non-rotating front, perfect for clip-on matte boxes. Dual focus scales with numerous marks and a 300° focus rotation enable precise focus adjustments. All Summicron-C lenses share a standard 95mm front diameter and similar weights and lengths, except for the 15mm and 135mm variants.
