Its standard DSMC2 form factor allows easy attachment of accessories from RED and other manufacturers, enhancing versatility. Despite having fewer photosites compared to HELIUM and MONSTRO sensors, the GEMINI sensor utilizes advanced aerospace-inspired circuitry to switch between native sensitivities. This feature enables optimal performance in both well-lit and low-light conditions, preserving detail in highlights and minimizing noise. The DSMC2 system supports a vast array of lenses, ensuring extensive creative options. REDCODE RAW remains the preferred format for DSMC2 cameras, employing wavelet compression to maintain visually lossless image quality while reducing data rates. This efficient codec supports direct editing on numerous NLE software programs without transcoding. Alternatively, simultaneous ProRes or DNx recording to MINI-MAG media facilitates proxy workflows. Lowering recording resolution enables capture of high-frame-rate footage for impactful slow-motion sequences, achieved through sensor windowing that may require adjustments in lens selection. The GEMINI 5K Super35 sensor features dual sensitivity modes: Standard mode for typical shooting scenarios and Low Light mode for heightened sensitivity with minimal noise increase. Central to RED's workflow, the robust REDCODE RAW file format utilizes wavelet compression ratios from 2:1 to 22:1, balancing file versatility with manageable storage requirements.
