This combination delivers enhanced performance, including faster operation, improved noise reduction, and a wider dynamic range. The camera supports UHD 4K 120p video recording internally with 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling.
The redesigned 12.1MP full-frame CMOS sensor features a back-illuminated Exmor RS design for improved clarity and reduced noise, offering an impressive sensitivity range from ISO 80-102400 (expandable to ISO 40-409600). The sensor’s 2x faster readout speeds, coupled with the BIONZ XR processor, significantly reduce rolling shutter by 3x and enhance overall camera handling with up to 8x faster processing.
For stills, the sensor and processor combination achieves a wide dynamic range of approximately 14 stops (stills) and 15 stops (video), supporting 10 fps continuous shooting for up to 1000 uncompressed raw files. UHD 4K recording at up to 120p uses full 1:1 pixel readout without binning. Internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling is available in all recording modes, with the option for 16-bit raw output via the full-size HDMI A port for extensive tonal reproduction and post-production flexibility.
Sony introduces two new codecs: XAVC HS for HEVC/H.265 encoding, retaining detail at lower bitrates, and XAVC S-I, an intraframe codec ensuring consistent performance at bitrates up to 600 Mb/s.
