The Sony FX3 is the compact end of Sony's Cinema Line, a full-frame camera that fits the same color science and codecs as the FX6 and FX9 into a body small enough for gimbals, drones, and tight handheld work. Its 12.1MP full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R sensor reads out around 10.2MP for video, which keeps noise low and dynamic range wide at 15+ stops, and a base sensitivity that runs from ISO 80 up to 102,400, expandable to 409,600, makes it comfortable in low light where larger cameras would struggle.
It records UHD 4K up to 120p and Full HD up to 240p in 10-bit 4:2:2 XAVC, with 16-bit RAW output over HDMI to an external recorder for the highest-end finishing. S-Cinetone gives usable, flattering color straight out of the camera, while S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine hold grading latitude and match cleanly to other Sony Cinema Line bodies on a multi-camera shoot. Footage writes to dual card slots that accept CFexpress Type A or UHS-II SD.
The FX3 was designed around a cage-free body, with 1/4"-20 threads placed directly on the chassis so accessories mount without an extra cage, and it carries active sensor-shift stabilization for handheld work plus a built-in fan that allows extended recording without overheating. The detachable XLR handle adds professional audio inputs, and the camera uses Sony's Fast Hybrid autofocus with real-time Eye AF for reliable focus on moving subjects. It takes Sony E-mount glass, and its size makes it the camera that goes where an FX6 will not.
